Lenten Devotional for Saturday, March 3, 2012

Therefore do not pronounce judgment before the time, before the Lord comes,
who will bring to light the things now hidden in darkness and will disclose the purpose of the heart. -from 1 Corinthians 4:1-7

My friend Linda shared her “word” for 2012 with me ~ fresh …fresh air, fresh vegetables, fresh ideas.  I was then challenged to find my word for the new year.  After much thought and tossing words around to see what fit, I settled on light …sunlight, candlelight, light meals, and the light in the darkness.

Light is used throughout the Bible.  “In the beginning…God said, ‘Let there be light.’” (Genesis 1:3a)  “…and the light was the light of all people.”  (John 1:4b)   We accept all kinds of light as part of our daily lives and take them for granted.  Perhaps what we need to do is bring into the light those things we try to keep hidden in darkness…poverty, homelessness, hunger, sickness, and addiction.  Bring forth the light of our lives.

O Lord, Giver of all Light, help me to bring into the light those things I have kept hidden.  Amen.
