…on your wondrous works, I will meditate.
-Psalm 145: 5

Simplicity is what I’m needing this Lenten season, so this is the verse that jumped out at me. It does not draw me into the scripture, but instead bounces me right back out to the mysterious life in and around me. I didn’t even want to finish the psalm for fear that somewhere it might contain the requisite “cursing of the wicked people,” and no matter how one may interpret that, it’s just not for me right now. Yes, I want to be bounced out of the scripture onto the pulse of life: the living air, the surrounding trees, birds, cockroaches, plastic bags…whatever may decide to be my messenger at this moment.

Source of all life, help me to understand how it can be that you are all things. For now, I will meditate on your wondrous works.
